How to Measure Ring Size at Home — Complete Guide for Indian Buyers
Ordering a ring online can feel uncertain if you don't know your exact size. This guide walks you through four reliable methods to measure your ring size at home, plus an Indian ring size chart to help you find the perfect fit.
Method 1: The String Method
This is the simplest approach and requires only a piece of string or thread and a ruler.
- Cut a piece of string roughly 10cm long
- Wrap it snugly around the base of the finger you want to measure
- Mark the point where the string overlaps with a pen
- Lay the string flat and measure the length in millimetres
- This measurement is your finger circumference — match it to the chart below
Method 2: The Paper Strip Method
A more precise version of the string method:
- Cut a thin strip of paper (about 1cm wide, 10cm long)
- Wrap it around your finger, just below the knuckle
- Mark where the paper overlaps
- Measure the length with a ruler for your circumference
Tip: The strip should be snug but not tight. You should be able to slide it over your knuckle comfortably.
Method 3: Using an Existing Ring
If you already own a ring that fits the intended finger well:
- Place the ring on a flat surface
- Measure the inside diameter (the widest point across the inner circle) in millimetres
- Match the diameter to the chart below
This method is especially useful when buying a surprise engagement ring — borrow one of their rings that fits the correct finger.
Method 4: Professional Ring Sizer
The most accurate method. A ring sizer is a set of metal or plastic rings in graduated sizes that you try on until you find the perfect fit.
Blu Diamonds includes a complimentary ring sizer with every ring order. If you're unsure about your size, order the ring in your best estimate — we offer free resizing within 14 days of delivery.

Tips for Accurate Ring Measurement
Measure at the Right Time
Fingers swell and shrink throughout the day. Measure in the evening when your fingers are at their largest. Avoid measuring when your hands are very cold or very hot.
Account for Knuckle Size
If your knuckle is significantly larger than the base of your finger, measure both and choose a size in between. The ring needs to slide over the knuckle but sit snugly at the base.
Consider Ring Width
Wider bands (6mm+) fit tighter than thinner bands. If you're choosing a wide band, go half a size up from your measurement.
Measure Multiple Times
Take measurements on at least 2-3 different occasions to ensure consistency. If you get different readings, go with the larger size.
